    Registration is now open for the Pediatric Musculoskeletal Ultrasound: Fundamentals Course [scottishriteforchildren.org] hosted by Scottish Rite for Children on Saturday, November 19.

    This pediatric-focused instructional course includes small group scanning sessions throughout the day. Devices and pediatric volunteers will be available for groups of four learners with course faculty assigned to each station. Space is limited (28!) so don’t wait to register and share this with interested individuals.

    There is a $100 discount for all who register prior to October 1.

    This conference is intended for pediatric medical professionals interested in an introduction to musculoskeletal ultrasound.

    This is a full time position supporting a single surgeon with opportunities for independent practice included, at the Rochester, MN campus. We have 5 Fellowship Trained Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeons and currently employ 3 NPs and 1 PA in our division, and with this position added we will be at 5 and 5, with a 1:1 ratio of surgeons and Advanced Practice Providers. As you probably know, our Division Chair Dr. Todd Milbrandt is in line for the Presidency of POSNA, and is a forward thinking leader.

    POPS Conference 2022

     

    Have you registered for POPS Conference 2022 yet? We would love to have you join us in Vancouver May 10th! Registration will remain open online until 4/30/21, but please register no later than April 8th if you would like a custom t-shirt size. If you registered on ENP I will be contacting you soon to obtain your tshirt information.

    We will have onsite registration available.

    Call for Board Nominations 2022

     

    Good morning members,

    Stephanie de Jager, President for POPS, is requesting nominationfor members willing to serve on the POPS Board of Directors. The following positions will be accepting nominations:

    • Marketing Director/Historian
    • Two Member at Large positions
    • President Elect

    Current members are welcome to nominate him/herself or another member, with the stipulation that the member is aware of and accepts the nomination. With the nomination, please confirm the position in which the candidate should be considered.

    · Utilize current theories of psychosocial, developmental, educational, and pediatric care to deliver family-centered care to neonates, toddlers, preschoolers, school age and adolescent patient populations

    · Work interdependently with and independently of the larger multi-disciplinary team, with the expanded scope of practice under the delegated authority and supervision of the designated supervising physician(s) in accordance with the delegation protocol or practice guideline which is developed in collaboration with and approved by the supervising physician(s)

    · Major functional areas include; practitioner, consultant, educator and researcher

    · Communicate and collaborate with other health professionals as well as demonstrate substantial interpersonal skills necessary to teach patient, families and staff effectively

    · Facilitate communication with outside agencies, schools, other resources, etc. for the benefits of the patient. Active involvement in community and professional programs

    Required Skills/Abilities

    · Candidates must be a graduate of an accredited advanced practice registered nursing program (APRN) or physician assistant (PA) program and are certified through a recognized accrediting agency and hold a current Texas license

    · 2 years of experience in pediatric orthopedics

    · Membership and active participation in professional organizations are beneficial

    · Knowledge of growth and development from birth through adolescence

    · Ability to learn new skills in a timely manner

    Summary

    Job Purpose

    The Department of Pediatrics, Orthopedic Surgery, at Children’s Hospital of San Antonio (CHoSA), in San Antonio, Texas, is currently recruiting for a Physician Assistant-Instructor

     

    Working in a high volume and patient-oriented clinic, this position will be responsible for the management of patients with pediatric acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions under the direct supervision of several pediatric orthopedic surgeons.

     

     

    Job Duties

    Essential job functions and duties include, but are not limited to:

    • Evaluation of new and follow-up patients, including history and physical exams, diagnosis, and recommendations for treatment.

    • Casting and Splinting.

    • Interpretation of X-rays and MRI films within the scope of practice.

    • Post-operative care including wound care, dressing changes, brace prescription and evaluation, reviewing operative photographs and procedures.

    • Call coverage.

    • Obtain detailed history and perform physical examinations.

    • Perform, order, and interpret diagnostic procedures in accordance with relevant health concerns of the patient.

    • Prescribes appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments.

    • Maintain records and write orders and progress notes in patient charts as to status, treatments, and procedures.

    • Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording on patient medical records.

    • Provide follow-up health maintenance care to patients in accordance with protocols established with the supervising physician.

    • Communicate with physicians, patients, and the family members of patients concerning patient care.

    • Collaborates with providers, and practice staff in identifying appropriate patients for care management.

    • Perform other job related duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Education Required: Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies. NOTE: Bachelor's degree in Physician Assistant Studies accepted based on terminal degree requirements at time of graduation.
    • Experience Required: None required.
    • Certification/Licenses/Registration: Current license as a Physician Assistant by the State of Texas Physician Assistant Board. Specialty certification as required by department. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

    Save the date! POPS will be headed to Vancouver BC for our annual conference on May 10, 2022. Mark your calendars that registration and scholarship applications will open on January 5, 2022.  We look forward to seeing you there.
